Vivienne Westwood - The Tigress’ Leap

Get a blast from the past by being completely immersed in Westwood’s artwork.

You can expect a deep dive into Westwood’s activism and rebellious personality that made her an icon for fashion activism while cleverly integrating elements of her British legacy as part of her own identity and personal inspiration.

The Tigress’ Leap explores Westwood’s unique perception of the past to reinvent the present and envision the future by emphasizing her engagement with both history and modernity.

Where: MUDE - Museu de Design
In exhibition until October 12th.

Jeff Wall - Time Stands Still

Wall is among the most favored and influential photographers of the last few decades.

He is known for exploring the boundaries of photography through theatrically staged scenes and dramatic narratives.

Wall often merges photography, cinema and painting by so meticulously composing a frame that it can ultimately look like a spontaneous documentary moment or even a painting. These moments also reflect the artist’s incomparable awareness of everyday life and social topics, by using his own scenarios as space to depict some issues, such as poverty, loneliness, and social exclusion.

Where: MAAT - Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia
In exhibition until September 1st.

Jazz Concert Series

‘Jazz em Agosto’ dedicated series in Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation began back in 1984 and has become an annual tradition ever since.

You can count on a peaceful yet energized atmosphere built by the Gulbenkian gardens and the outdoor concrete amphitheatre that has become known around the capital as a one-of-a-kind experience.

The ‘Heart Trio’ - William Parker, Cooper-Moore and Hamid Drake - is set to open the festival with a free jazz performance. The trio is defined by their diverse and unique instruments in addition to their strong influences from African and Asian music.

While around Gulbenkian, you can also explore the newest work of the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma as well as a variety of artwork to discover inside with artists such as Paula Rego and Mikhail Karikis.

Lucid Reverie

Lucid Reverie brings us the ‘juice’ of Portuguese Contemporary Art. Curators Hiuwai Chu and Raphael Fonseca travelled across Portugal to meet over 100 artists while having a deep understanding of each single artist, their work, life and influences.

The result is a map of 20 artists and artist-duos of various disciplines and different generations that due to their talented and consistent practices are now set to exhibit their work in an international stage. Main topics being explored are identity, memory and postcolonial legacy.

Tiago Mestre, Silvestre Pestana are among the artists who are known to captivate audiences with their compelling and thought-provoking contributions.

This exhibition serves as a vital platform, inviting new perspectives and fostering greater visibility for the richness of Portuguese contemporary art on a global scale.
